Hamilton County, OH — Passport Offices

No appointment needed. Walk into any Hamilton County Clerk of Courts location — photo service, application acceptance, and fee payment all in one stop.

🏛️ Why Hamilton County Ohio Works Differently

In Ohio, the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts — not the post office or county clerk — serves as the primary passport acceptance agency. Since 1992, the Clerk of Courts has operated as an authorized U.S. State Department passport acceptance facility. The result: no appointment, on-site photos, and multiple suburban branches — including Saturday hours at Seven Hills. This is the most convenient passport setup in the entire NKY/Cincinnati region.

Hamilton County Passport Questions

Do I really not need an appointment at any Hamilton County Clerk location?
Correct — the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts never requires an appointment for passport services. This is a local policy that makes Cincinnati significantly more convenient than most other regions. Just walk in during posted hours. Note that the passport window closes before the building closes — the Downtown location closes the passport window at 3:15 PM even though the building is open until 4 PM.
Which branch should I go to if I work Monday through Friday?
Seven Hills (10964 Hamilton Ave) is the only branch open on Saturdays — 8:00 AM to 11:45 AM. Go early. The Forest Park/West Kemper branch is confirmed open through lunch hours, which may allow a midday weekday visit if your schedule allows.
Can the Hamilton County Clerk renew my passport?
The Clerk of Courts accepts applications for new passports and for passports that require in-person renewal (lost/stolen/damaged, name changed, or expired more than 5 years). If you qualify for standard renewal (passport issued at 16+, issued less than 5 years ago, undamaged), you can renew by mail with Form DS-82 and don't need to visit any office.
What's the difference between a passport book and a passport card?
The passport book is valid for international air travel to any country. The passport card is a wallet-sized alternative valid only for land and sea travel to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean — not for international flights. Many people apply for both at the same appointment since only one $35 execution fee is charged when applying for both together.
Is it worth coming to Hamilton County from NKY just to avoid the appointment requirement?
Often yes — especially during spring and summer. The Kenton County library books up weeks in advance and has a 24-hour minimum lead time. If you need a passport within the next couple of weeks and can't get a Kentucky appointment, crossing the river to a Hamilton County Clerk location is a reliable alternative. The Downtown location (1001 Main St) is about 10 minutes from Covington and Newport.
